Ivy - characteristics

Ivy, known as Hedera, is a plant of remarkable vitality. Its climbing nature allows it to conquer space, creating dense, green carpets. It is a symbol of perseverance and life, present in culture since ancient times. Its charm lies in its characteristic leaves with a deep, saturated colour. Sometimes they are dark green, almost emerald, other times decorated with lighter veins that draw delicate patterns on them. Their leathery texture adds nobility and beautifully reflects light.

But ivy is not just the classic Hedera variety. It also comes in forms with more rounded leaves, resembling poplar leaves, or in a miniature version, with small, charming leaves. Each of these forms has its own unique charm. In nature, ivy often climbs walls or tree trunks. This plasticity and beauty have inspired artists and decorators for centuries.

The secret of evergreen foliage - what is preservation?

The stabilisation (or preservation) process allows the natural beauty of ivy to be preserved for a very long time. The most beautiful, healthy ivy branches are carefully selected at the peak of their vitality. Then, in a special process, the natural plant juices are replaced with a glycerine-based solution.

This way, ivy retains all its most valuable qualities. The leaves remain soft, flexible and springy to the touch. Their natural shape and deep, vivid colour are preserved. Preserved ivy requires absolutely no care.

It requires no water, sunlight or pruning. It simply exists, pleasing the eye with its appearance for at least six months. It is greenery in its purest, maintenance-free form.

The use of preserved ivy

The possibilities for using preserved ivy are almost limitless. It is a wonderful tool for creating atmosphere in interiors that need breathing space and a natural accent. Combined with other preserved plants, it allows you to create spectacular green walls. An ivy wall can completely transform a room, introducing a forest-like atmosphere of tranquillity and calm. There is no need to worry about watering or access to light, so greenery can easily be added even in the bathroom, creating a home spa, or in a dark hallway, welcoming guests from the doorstep.

Ivy also works wonderfully in smaller forms. It can be used as a base for wreaths and decorations that adorn doors or tables all year round, not just during the festive season. It is a beautiful complement to moss panels. Individual twigs add charm to glass compositions, creating popular forests in jars that will never wilt.

It looks great woven into dry bouquets, adding an artistic, botanical character. Dense ivy twigs can be used to decorate a vase or as part of innovative floral installations.

Natural harmonies - what to combine dried ivy with?

Preserved ivy is a wonderful backdrop for other decorative elements, but also looks stunning on its own. It can be combined with other leaves, such as preserved ruscus or eucalyptus branches, which will add lightness and volume to the composition.

An interesting forest contrast is introduced by preserved fern, offering a completely different, feathery shape. Ivy vines also complement delicate preserved gypsophila flowers or asparagus perfectly. The combination of vibrant green and subtle white or natural dried colours is very fashionable and brings a lot of warmth to the interior.

It is worth considering accessories from outside the world of flora. Ivy looks wonderful when accompanied by natural wood – raw, bleached or burnt. Entwining itself around a wooden frame or a metal, industrial rack, it softens their harshness. It creates a beautiful combination with cork, architectural concrete or jute string.
